When making curtains, how wide should they be in comparison to the window?
I'm making café curtains and wondered if they should twice as wide as they window (obviously before they're placed on the curtain rod) or less/more. What about tab top curtains? Do they differ in recommended widths?
Thanks.

In order for the curtain to look very lovely the width should be much wider than the window and of course you will use double material one peice on either side of the window.

I have always heard that they should be 1.5 times the width of the window.

depends on the look you are trying to achieve and purpose of curtain ( decoration or privacy) also depends on fabric. If you want it to be nice and full usually 2 1/2 times width of window but 2 times is more than enough usually. I would think tab top curtains are very similar in recommendations. They have flyer’s at fabric stores, like Joann’s that give you recommendations, you could also probably Google “curtain widths” and come up with an answer as well. Contry Curtains, catalog and website could probably give you some insight as well PS. yep, I just “Googled” curtain widths and came up with http://www.alternative-windows.com/measure.htm try that out!
