be moldy?i was going to wash them in a big bucket,do i just use a light detergent and rinse,also can i hang them up wet with the windows open is that the best way for them to dry as they are big and cant go in the machine,i just want to freshen them up,and what are the best ways to get rid of cigarette smoke in a room besides air fresheners it just masks it any Natural products i can use,and for washing windows besides cleaners with chemicals can i use vinegar is it the white vinegar or the apple cider vinegar just want to freshen up a dining room thanks

Unless the tags say they are washable, do not wash velvet of any kind. It ruins the nap and you'll never get it back.

Velvet should be dry cleaned ONLY.

As to the smell, you have to get rid of the source. That means scrubbing down the walls and ceiling with TSP (trisodium phosphate), cleaning the doors, windows, window sills, door and window frames, door and window hardware, floors, baseboards...EVERYTHING...to get the nicotine off. Furniture and carpeting must be shampooed, even in places that look clean because the nicotine gets into everything. Curtains and draperies must be taken down and cleaned as well.

Painting the walls and ceilings will also help.

Then don't let any one smoke inside ever again.

I am going to take a stab in the dark here and guess that you want it 'just right' and nothing that you have seen is 'doing' it for you. Right?

Go to http://www.ehow.com/how_4423998_make-blackout-curtains.html and look at how to make your own and then go to Target, Walmart, wherever and buy the material and you will be happiest.

I hope this help. Don't buy them custom, they are always overpriced and if you make them your self you'll have a new skill that you can pass on.

I have some velvet curtains I want to turn into a costume, but after unpicking the stitching on the curtains, I am left with holes showing where the needle went through. I have tried gently brushing these, but to no effect! Is there anyway to get rid of these holes?
I have washed the material on a gentle wash hoping this would help, but it hasn't!

Try using steam. Hold an affected piece over the spout of a boiling kettle, it might raise the 'nap'.
