Are dark blackout curtains effective at keeping the heat out of a room?

Question by Jill: Are dark blackout curtains effective at keeping the heat out of a room?
I recently purchased black colored (black to match) "Blackout Panels" for my room to keep out heat. They advertise that they are 99.9% effective at blocking light. Will heat still absorb since the color is dark?
