Why not hang a Sheer behind the curtains?
I have lined drapes, still put up a sheer for extra.
I had to hang a second rod but it works.

You can get different kinds of linings. But any lining will add lustre and fullness to a curtain which will enhance the fabric.
Types of Linings
Cotton or Polyester uncoated lining – which protects the fabric only but adds depth to the fabric.
1 Pass lining – is a Suede coating (1 layer of suede coating on the base cloth) usually gives about 40% protection from the sunlight. Protects from the sunlight, but shows some light in the room.
3 Pass Lining (otherwise known as blockout lining) – (3 layers of suede coating on the base cloth) – usually gives about 98% protection from the sunlight – but will also really DARKEN a room so when you close the curtains it’s basically dark.
The type of lining depends on the fabric.
If you have a sheer or lace…I’d suggest a polyester or cotton uncoated lining – as it’s soft and enhances the fabric.
Just a normal uncoated fabric – I would put a 1 pass or a blockout lining behind.
Putting a lining behind the curtain – will add depth and enhance the fabric.
Usually lining colours come in white, ivory or cream. But if it’s a sheer sometimes you can actually use a “real curtain fabric” for a lining behind, in a colour similar to the fabric so it adds depth to the colour.
You can attach linings with just a lining tape on the top of the lining – and using the curtain hooks – attach both the lining tape to the back of the original curtain tape…..or you can have a separate lining on a separate track….(since u already have the curtain – you can’t really have it sewn in)

Lined drapes serve 2 purposes.
1) Light control.
2) Insulation barrier during the warm and cold seasons.
Since the lining is on the back side it isnt visible. It should help the design of your curtains be MORE visible. It sounds as if your drapery fabric is a sheer or semi sheer as well as the lined fabric.
You could always add a shade, blind or an additional sheer behind the drapes.
