Hospital Curtains

Walking through a hospital we might poke our heads into a room, and there we see them: those light, fluffy, billowing drapes of cloth. They provide a currency of privacy when doors fly open and sometimes stay that way. They offer warmth from the drafts of day and night, and from air conditioners placed on too low a setting, as always seems to be the way. We speak of hospital curtains.

These are a wonderful accessory for people who haven’t a lot of money, yet need to cover the windows of their homes. While they may seem a bit strange or even thin, the reality is that with the right selection skills and a bit of luck, hospital curtains may just fit the bill. They may come from a strange source, but they do the job of keeping out the sun, extricating the possibility of peeping toms, and also of providing a bit of suave de coup for your décor.

Another good use of hospital curtains is to use them just as they’re used in a hospital: around a bed. The reasons for this are simple. They offer privacy should a person have children or others living in the same house, such as room-mates. Further, they add a great blanket of warmth on those bristling-cold winter mornings.

So, hunky-dory, you say. You’re convinced, save for one thing: the source. Where does one legally procure hospital curtains? The answer is to start at the font of these items, the hospital itself. Due to the nature of hospitals, that is, that their customers are constantly coming in and out, the curtains are usually changed, at least once a year.

Of course, said curtains may not be of such a pretty sight, easily amended with a little clothing dye or a good bleaching. However, on a normal basis, these curtains will be of an acceptable, if not exceptional condition. It is simply a matter of a little extra tender care.

Sometimes hospitals will pass these curtains on to charity groups, such as church-sponsored groups, Goodwill, the Salvation Army, or even Army-Navy surplus shops. These days, with the internet as a search tool, the problem of finding such curtains should not be so great.

I am looking for pricing for curtains and tracks. I was hoping to find cheap discontinued fabric. We are planning to use them for a haunted house this fall and are looking for a large amount. I am ok with non matching fabrics as well.
