Curtain Rings
Nearly everyone likes curtains, it seems. Of course, they’re not exactly a subject you’re truly concerned about, unless you pride yourself as a ‘Suzy Homemaker,’ and that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Yet something that even ‘Suzy’ often forgets about when going to buy a new set of draperies are curtain rings.
While they’re a bit rare, curtain rings are still being made, though they were probably at the height of their popularity in the seventies. Today, though, like so many fashionable items for the home or body, the rings are swinging back into popularity.
One of the reasons for this newfound popularity is based in the curtains themselves. Some curtains have had such tedious and difficult hanging mechanisms that through the years consumers have stopped buying some systems in favor of others. Curtain rings, however, are a good example of a product on the comeback as they are extremely simple to attach.
Further, curtain rings tend to be stronger and by way of attachment methods, don’t usually rip curtains if they are abused in a moment of passion, silliness, or carelessness, whatever the case may be.
One concern for many, particularly housewives, is aesthetics. Some simply find rings at the tops of drapes to look shabby, bulky, or downright tacky. For those people it is a simple matter of changing their philosophies. The rings symbolize eternity, as with that which they seek in their relationships (or hope to garner with such paraphernalia as nice curtains).
Further, rings show off a confidence and richness to the home that are quickly noticed and commented upon. In fact, they make a nice conversation starter, and when holding a fine floral pattern or other tasteful (if a bit wild, as rings can handle it) curtain pattern, they go well together, not unlike wine and lips.
Yet some people at this point still will not be convinced. In fact for the more socially conservative set, this is understandable (for by definition, those who are conservative shun newness). But actually, as already pointed out, rings holding drapes really are not new at all. And if that conundrum doesn’t grip you, then maybe this thought will: there are always curtain trellises that can be installed, and none will be the wiser.
