Cubicle Curtains

For those of us who work at an office, we know fully well that there are good and bad aspects to having our own cubicle. There are so many philosophies and pseudo-philosophies applied to the subject that it could probably fill a coliseum. However, when it gets down to it, if you’re a person who feels like you “live” in a giant box, there are solutions to make your situation better.

Often, many people are happy having their own desk that is surrounded by a sea of other desks, with no walls or other barriers blocking the view of each other. Of course, this opinion can change very quickly as tensions mount and for this reason, amongst others, employers tend to put up walls to provide a bit of noise reduction and a little anonymity. Sadly, this often isn’t enough. For this purpose, an option is a modest investment in cubicle curtains.

Cubicle curtains are simply a way to block the open space that constitutes a “door” of one’s tiny office space. It is a perfect way to claim a bit more personal hegemony in an impersonal office space. As well, it gives a person a bit of psychological strength even when one’s employer steps into the cubicle to talk.

Further, cubicle curtains more greatly define personal territory to other employees who might have the annoying habit of borrowing one’s things when the owner is not around. To have to push through curtains tells intruders, if only on a subconscious level, that they are in someone else’s territory.

Moreover, cubicle covers are also a benefit to employers. This is as employees tend to find themselves more content and even happy when they are given the privacy that we humans tend to favor so much. While some might think that cubicle curtains create a greater level of separatism, and some certainly will find this true, others, even very social people, often enjoy the flexing of their territorial imperative, and while they may be against such a material divider at first, soon find the curtains indispensable.
