Use shorter curtains. Also good to keep curtains up away from base board heaters, if you have any. At least 8 in. away from source of heat. As for the person who mentioned the plasitc plug protectors for children-that is a wise idea if you really want longer curtains. Otherwise, short ones.
Take care.

Yes, No, Maybe.

Gven the dodgy wiring in the USA it's probably not a good idea to hang curtains over an outlet just in case of potential fire hazards.

A single spark generally won't set curtains on fire if they have natural fibres in them such as cotton, wool or hemp. If they are rayon or other man made fibres there's a slight chance fire may occur but it would be pretty remote.

Using a switched outlet will negate the issue. A quick google found nothing to indicate any fire hazard. However there may be local laws that say otherwise. Check with your local building code authority to have 100% peace of mind.

If electricity archs out of the outlet, say from a partially inserted metal object, then there is a slim chance that a curtain could reach its flash point and ignite. Otherwise, very slim chance - outlet don't just emit sparks.

I don't understand the whole safety pin tied through thing, but I'm a beginner at sewing, so maybe it's obvious to other people. But it was not obvious to me.

Also, umm, too much cleavage!
