Question by Hometime: Can you buy a separate thermal/insulated back for patio curtain panels if one you want doesn't come with it?
I have looked everywhere but the ones I like are unlined. I definitely need a thermal/acrylic backing because the one in place there now lets all of the drafts in. I was just wondering if there was anyway I could somehow get it as a separate piece but hang it up with the panel. I don't want to spend a fortune in custom draperies and I don't have the skill to make them myself. Thanks and happy new year!

You can buy the insulated backing material at fabric stores (some carry it, some have to order it) or from online fabric vendors.

If the curtain panels come with an inadequate lining, you could simply sew a straight line attaching the insulated stuff you buy right over the thin lining the panels come with, near the top where it won't be noticeable.

Just as easy as it is to close any curtain that hangs directly on the rod (rather than by hooks, rings or eyelets). If you're using a splintered wooden rod that catches or heavy drapes it would be harder. Something light like cotton on a sleek metal rod should be no problem. You can get handles to attach to curtains as well. They are like the handles on mini-blinds that you twist to open and close. You somehow attach them on the back side of the curtain and use them to slide the curtain back and forth. You sometimes see similar set-ups on hotel drapes and vertical blinds.
