The materials used in blackout curtain liners are typically polyester/cotton blend.

But it's not the material that makes 'em blackouts... it's the way they're made.

You can buy liners for your current curtains, though, like these:

Now, may I suggest an alternative? I have a HUGE window in my bedroom and can't sleep if there's any light whatsoever. I bought, from Amazon, a 6-pack of the Blackout Redi-Shade (http://www.amazon.com/Redi-Shade-1617201-Pleated-72-Inch/product-reviews/B000SDROMG) for ... It took three shades to cover my window, but so what... at / each I covered a 8'w by 6'h window (the three shades overlap one another by several inches... I put up the left shade first, then the right shade, then the center shade) and my bedroom is COMPLETELY dark. No one even knows they're there because my regular curtains cover the blackout shades.

I am making curtains and would like to line them with blackout lining. Could I used a white flat bed sheet instead of the blackout lining? I would like it to completely block out the sun as well as keep the heat/ or ac indoors. Also, will the sun make them change color or will it stay white?

White sheets would not give you total blackout. You would have to go with something darker and yes, the sun will fade the material over time.

I looked on the Internet and I saw cheap ones, floor-length ones, custom made ones, none of which I wanted. Also, I'd rather go to a real store to see exactly what I'm buying before I buy it, since it has to match the rest of the decor.

I am going to take a stab in the dark here and guess that you want it 'just right' and nothing that you have seen is 'doing' it for you. Right?

Go to http://www.ehow.com/how_4423998_make-blackout-curtains.html and look at how to make your own and then go to Target, Walmart, wherever and buy the material and you will be happiest.

I hope this help. Don't buy them custom, they are always overpriced and if you make them your self you'll have a new skill that you can pass on.
